I don't understand why the government has a right to tell a man or a women what to do with their body? It doesn't make sense to me..the only thing that comes to mind would be the ability for the government to regulate prostitution and accurately collect taxes. I understand alot think it is morally wrong..still what do you think?

The subject is too tabboo for America's morality. There is a strong religious/ conservative element out there who would scream bloody murder over legalizing prostitution.

Other civilized nations have had legalized prostitution for many years now and the problem with STDs is pretty much controlled. Nevada certainly doesn't seem to have many problems with the legally run operartions.

Perhaps this is a matter best handled on the state level. Get your state legislature to consider legalizing prostitution, if you want it in your area. However be prepared for a long process. Then there it is the problem of screening all the current professionals that are operating illegally now.

You are correct. Those arguing about STD's and such, in fact couldn't be more wrong. With legal prostitution, the "product" would go through a thorough examination on a regular basis. Also, the government could collect the taxes on the sales. In addition, many lonely men, and women, could get some satisfaction they otherwise wouldn't be able to enjoy. Probably cut down on crimes against women too.
I think the same way on drugs too. Not all drugs. But man this country would be much better off collecting taxes, and eliminating organized crime. Also, the drugs sold would be quality controlled and there would be less accidental overdoses.

It is the oldest profession... Doesn't seem morally right to me. I suppose that prostitutes do provide what seems a needed service for some people. But what about the diseases. One just can't go get a shot and be over it in a few days anymore. It could kill you. Think about it. Maybe that's a good reason not to legalize it if the moral issues don't hit home with you...

I agree with you and BretH. I also do not feel the Gov has any right to tell a person what they can or cannot do with their body. Regulation is the key and a healthy compromise for all. All prostitution should be indoors or in closed off facility. All who wish to partake should be screened beforehand to protect all involved. This would be the adult, responsible, and true American way to do it. Those who wish to participate could and those who do not, would not be exposed to it. No one would be offended and everyone could mind their own business.

My friend, as for me, I think prostitution should never ever be put into a legal matter. In short, prostitution should not be legalized. Why? Well, if we legalize prostitution, we are trying to 'cover-up' our filthiness or what we known as sin. In other words, if we dare to legalize prostitution, it shows that we are trying to make something that immoral or sinful to be 'look nice or good' in the eyes of the public or mere mortal.
And if you are talking about consensual sex...then this we may not need to categorize it under the concept of prostitution. (Many of you out there may disagree with me with this view but I'll stand on this definition.)
Comprehensively, prostitution is not similar to consensual sex or intercourse and prostitution should never ever be put legal. Like I say, if we do so, then we are trying to overrule one of the divine law. Besides, in doing so, we may seem trying to cover up our own sin in which we all will really regret at the end of our life.
As for my opinion, I am totally disagree with the suggestion to legalize prostitution for it will bring lots of human conflicts (especially in morality matter) instead of bringing peace and harmony to the world of man.

If the federal government made prostitution legal they would be under a mandate to regulate it and protect those involved. I really don't want my tax dollars going to workman's compensation claims for lawsuits emanating from contracted sex. Prostitution is a high risk activity for both partners. It would be unfeasible for the courts to determine exactly where a HIV positive status occurred and who transmitted it to whom.

I think you are right that the government has no right to dictate usage of ones body for whatever deed they are pulling. Prositution should be legalized, as everyone has a right to earn a living in their peculiar way, but in this line of work a prostitute i.e. is a effecting a lot of ppl. i.e. I think there should be strict health and safety codes with regards to this, alongwith secutiry checks, as to keep it as safe as possible. esp. against harmful diseases like AIDS, Herpies and what not

It maybe morally incorrect, but there are many facets in society, so they should all be catered to. If a dancer can earn money by strutting her/his groove maker, if a businessperson can earn by offering services, so prostitutes also deserve to earn money. albiet a service where money is earned by offering sexual activities in return.

Prostitution should stay illegal...Granted I don't think it's morally right, while I think if a man wants to pay for sex that's his prerogative, sucks when he brings home diseases to his family, and I don't want to drive my son down the road with call girls on every corner wearing next to nothing- however if it was legal, then what would stop all the underage girls forced into prostitution- there would be mass amounts of it

How can the government who tells us that we shouldnt, and they dont, support gay marriage but then legalize prostitiution? Its a moral issue. I actually agree that they would be able to regulate and even collect taxes if they did.
