Just thinking of replacing the old PCI Lan Adapters. Is it possible to design a LAN consists of 4/5 PCs?

First of all bluetooth is only used for mobiles for media transfers or syncs. The available speed is only 1mb/sec and this might affect your data transfers due to limited distance.

I suggest instead of using bluetooth technology use a wireless network router and wi-fi cards. I know the expense is a lot farther than the bluetooth technology but the cost effective and productivity of the system is more faster and a lot reliable. I hope this may help!

Yes it is possible by activating Bluetooth Personal Area Network service. It really depends on what resources you wish to share between those PCs and your budget. The cost-benefit of using bluetooth PAN is not worthwhile. Like others have said, bluetooth is dreadfully slow. Bluetooth at the moment is best for connecting cellphones to your computer and backup useful data such as contact, sms, mms, pics and so on. I find it very slow when I backup my cellphone using bluetooth compared to USB cable. It might be cost effective if consider replacing LAN adapters. Happy networking.

no you cannot. however you can get an 802.11b/g usb adapter for around $10-15 edit: bluetooth adapters are for connecting to bluetooth devices(phones, headsets, etc)

G'day,

As the others already stated, it is possible but incredibly slow. Unfortunately you did not specify for what purpose do you connecting your computers. You will have consider this:
1. Bluetooth connection is EXTEREMELY slow. It will be counterproductive to use it at all.
2. Wireless network setup is OK if you want to share your internet connection. However it will be quite slow if you want to share file or networked software database
3. Ethernet cable network setup is still the best if you want to share file or using networked software database.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I agree with wahpak. It's best to use wireless card instead of USB bluetooth adapters because these are only made for cellphones.

That would be painful, when I sync my palm using bluetooth instead of the USB cable, it becomes painfully obvious how slow bluetooth is.

Not to mention, Bluetooth range is pretty limited and it is point-to-point.

I think it is worth the try, 1/mbps is not bad when you are sharing 4-5 computers, you don't get the full speed anyways.

Personally, I do understand the whole 'Bluetooth' concept for talking without having to hold the cell phone to your ear . . . but to tell you the truth . . . It creeps me out when I see (what looks like) someone talking to themselves. I hear someone talking and I think they were talking to me before I understand their on their cell. Back, not so long ago, I would see a person in the City talking like that...to no one...and...well..."twilight zone". I really do understand the whole 'Bluetooth" thing, and think it's a nice invention...it's just a fairly new concept and it creeps me out.
