I recently took the exam for USPS but have not been able to get a number from anyone (in terms of salary and hours for an entry-level carrier.) What kind of hours do they work? How late could I expect to get off work (if hired.) Thanks.

Hourly rate is $19.00. Yearly is $37,995, but that amount is unimportant to a newbie since 40 hours per week is not guaranteed. You could work as few as 2 hours a day or up to 60 hours per week. My experience though is that you'll usually work some overtime every week except during strange periods when the district is trying to pretend they don't need overtime.

I work from 0750 (That's 7:30 am) until at least 4pm.
PTF's (Part time flexibles) start as early as 7:30 or as late as 11am depending on how big and/or well staffed your office is, what truck runs/collections need to be covered. In other weords there is no average day for a PTF Letter Carrier.

Postal Carrier Salary

One I know and the other I can guess
1. the pay is dependent on the location-different places pay differently-but it usually starts off rather low.
2. while you're on probation they can, and (at least used to) do work you to death. my wife worked 6 12's with no say in the matter if they wanted to have her work over-and she STILL had to study to learn the zip codes on top of that. once you get that under your belt it's a really awesome place to work as for as pay and benefits go.

unless it's changed don't expect to have a life while you're on probation-you have no rights at all-they can fire you cause they don't like the way you do something.

It's usually pretty easy to find union pay scales online:
