The problem, as I'm sure you will soon see in the answers to follow, is that the Left has forgotten the time honored concept of Loyal Opposition.

No way, that's not the American way,his office does deserve respect but he personally is just a public servant.
"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

You can despise the man and respect the office. No problem, no complications. How many of the GOP posters here, particularly those who have made a sport out of Clinton hating whine about how bad we are to Bush. Hey, it comes with the office. And you are wrong, you don't have to respect Bush. He's a load of dung. You respect the institution of the presidency and the Constitution.

Considering that he didn't win either popular vote for both his election and re-election, I am going to say no. The people of the United States (yes, the greatest country in the world) did not vot to have him for president. The (outdated) electoral college decided that he would be president. We need to get rid of the electoral college, because it is outdated and not needed anymore. The e.c. was brought into being because communication routes were nonexistent in the late 1700s, so voters were not as informed as they are today.
sorry about the book of an answer.

If you are a public servant or in the military, you are OBLIGED to respect the authority.
The United States is a democracy. The US electorate, for better or worse, has voted for the man. He cannot govern unless the executive office is supported. You have your right to vote and participate in the political process, but not to usurp his authority.
If he does something illegal, there are legislators and supreme court justices with far more stellar qualifications than yourself who can intervene.
And I would not have voted for Bush (if I was American)

Was.... the greatest country in the world until it invaded a country that it had already beat in combat in previous years and had no other reason to invade that country but for revenge. Yes you have to respect the authority but not the man.

Sorry, but if you want my respect you have to EARN it. If Bush wants respect he should act in a manner that merits respect. Most Americans feel he has not done so.
