Keep in mind that Ethernet has a limitation on the length of cable vs the speed.
100BaseT Ethernet has a maximum limitation of 100 Metres for cable from one point on the network to another. This includes all the hardware inbetween (hubs/routers). Any longer cabling will result in massive performance degredation.
Also, there are limitations on patch cable length, which is typically 10 metres. If you are planning on running a connection to a machine 30 metres away, you may need a hub(repeater) or two in the middle to make it work.
