Do you have any idea how much that sounds like the Taliban ... or the current theocracy in Iran?

Did you translate this from Arabic or Persian yourself?

What a great idea! Let's totally try it. I know that everyone will totally agree with this idea and will stop what they are doing and just do what God wants. Why hasn't anyone tried this before. I mean, we all know what God wants. It's so crystal clear. And everyone agrees with each other as to what He wants. I mean, we have no disagreements whatsoever. And everyone knows that He wants us to save the environment and become vegetarians. I mean the right wing religious people are so pro-environment and anti-meat. I mean, even the religious meat-packers are anti-meat. And we'll pick just the right leaders who absolutely know God's will. After all, the good leaders all know His will and what He wants. Oh, but how do we know which leaders are good and which don't know His will? And the theocracy worked so well in Afghanistan with the Taliban. Women look so good in berkas. And a theocracy will save the world. That's worked so well in the past. I mean, we had the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, the Salem Witch Trials, 911. We are really on to something here.

Theocracies are notorious for corruption and cruelty to those who do not toe the line. This country is a democratic republic, and I really do consider those who advocate theocracy as traitors deserving of treason charges. Our government succeeds in great part because of the principle of separation of church and state. Try and find a theocracy that espouses the Nirvana you describe above - instead you will find corruption in the name of God, harassment of citizens who do not subscribe to the state religion, and often times genocide to "cleanse" the state of infidels or heathens. Look at the number of Christian leaders who have been found to have clay feet and hidden secrets they vilify others for. They all speak in the name of God, which ones will you trust? Will you take the responsiblity of electing a religious leader who turns out to be adept at charming crowds but equally adept at deception? What happens when this leader turns out to be more of a dictator? These are not fantasies, they have happened in many theocracies over the centuries. And on a side note, where did you get the strange idea that theocratists/religious people are vegetarians?

I'm very much a Christ centered, spiritual - as opposed to religious - Christian, and while all the worlds problems could be avoided/solved by following Christ's example, I have no interest whatsoever is living under a Theocracy. Does Taliban ring any bells for you? Or how about the mullahs of Iran? Just because it would be Christian - I'm assuming - doesn't mean it would be good govt. "Official Christianity"? I don't need anyone having the legal authority to tell me how to worship my God.

Nice idea, in theory, but experience and history have taught us otherwise.

It's been tried. All these kind of utopian ideas fail because they are too idealistic. People underestimate the tendency for people who believe they are doing God's will, and therefore whose actions and ideas are beyond question, to go insane with power. God's will has a tendency to become one and the same as the ruler's will.

"Pure representatives"? Where are you going to find them? Do such people even exist? Who is qualified to discern what the divine way is? Christians? Muslims? Jews? Hindus? There's so many tricky details, and that's where they say the Devil is.

Do mean "theocracy as a solution," like "the nuclear solution," or "the final solution?"

The result of putting God in the center is that our disagreements about who or what God "is" and our ideas about "What God wants" would tear our (American) society asunder.

Result: anarchy, people eating people, and WHAT environment!?

I hate to break it to you, but it isn't a solution when people force one religion down the throats of its citizens as the one religion to worship. Especially when there are citizens who don't agree with the religion. I believe King Henry the VIII tried something like that when he was ruling England.

Thats awfully ideolistic, and would go down with the ranks of communism, predicting things will happen one way, yet they turn out bad

Ideally, it sounds wonderful. But then again, so did Communism.
