Sometimes at work, crippled people ask me for help to get around. I have no medical training. I dont know what to do. I dont want to hurt them physically by giving them bad help. How do i tell them they just have to wait longer than everyone else because i have to go find the guy who knows what hes doing without pissing them off???

be nice to them and remember to never call them "crippled" to their face.

Where do you work? You simply ask them How can I help you ,it,s not like they didn't ask.Don't worry they will tell you exactly what to do.It is rude to just put them off without even trying! If you work in the hospital as a clerk you are totally correct to just plain tell them you have to get a nurse or a physical Therapist, just say I could hurt you. That is that!It is no wonder patients can,t tell nurses ,clerks, doctors apart anymore they all wear tacky "scrubs" and no tags.It is like they don,t want you to know who anyone is???Try not to be so hard on yourself.Good Luck!!!!

I am praying you don't work at a hospital, or something that would have a lot of handicapped people. Asking you for help to get around? Like getting around a few stairs because they are blind? If your friend suddenly became paralyzed, would you find help before helping them get around.? I think you are just uncomfortable in helping those that aren't as able to help themselves. I hope you don't ever require getting help to get around. Medical training isn't required to help someone up a curb, or through a door.

It is my experience that disabled people that ask for help usually guide you along with how they need your help. Ex. They'll extend an arm to show you what side to support them from. If you are unsure just ask " what do you need me to do so we can get you over there"? Use gentle movements and touch with a firm enough grip that they know you aren't going to let them fall. Most of all smile.

First of call stop calling them "crippled"! They are disabled. Second, just be honest. Say "Let me call "Joe" he'll be more help than I will. I wouldn't want you to get hurt because of something I did".

wow, that's a tough one. Maybe just smile and say, " I'm sorry, I'm really not qualified to help you, but if you don't mind waiting a minute or two, I'd be happy to get someone for you."

Hopefully that helps.

Keep it real, there has to be a way you can help someone out even if something so limited. Be considerate and don't make them feel worse than what they already do.

if you feel uncomfortable about it just say you have strained you back or some thing like that so it isn't exactly about them, but you will get someone to assist them,be polite and courteous just don't stress yourself out.
