I am about 5 classes away from getting a degree that I know I will not use because I am pursuing a different career now. Do I bite the price bullet and pay for the 5 classes and get the degree anyways or should I just save the money and forget about it?

Interesting question. I wish I knew what the degree was you are persuing. I recall in college taking "Sociology/Social Work (everybody did in the 70's and 80's) and when they drropped the Social Work program - there I was with all these classes and no idea what to do - I took some statistic classes thinking I would persue Research - but it was too impersonal. I also had a plethora of English and History classes and only needed to add the education classes in order to get my degree in Education. So, I was able to move into another degree coupled with the classes I had already taken. Sometimes, it's not that easy. I'd complete that course of study since you've already come so far - who knows -you might be able to use some of it - and regardless - you still know more now - than you knew going in. (smile) Best wishes to you and your career. I applaude my daughter even more now when I hear stories like yours. She knew she wanted to persue Culinary Arts and skopped the whole college scene - went straight to Culinary Arts school and in two years graduated. Now she's making big mint on a Cruise Ship in Hawaiii.....

Get The Degree! You can go to grad school for anything, it doesn't have to be the same as your undergrad, but you do need the degree. Plus, a lot of people don't end up doing what they went to school for, like me, for example, ha ha. As they say, it's good for "the back pocket". Good Luck!

This question is put perfect by you already. But I will revise it for you and let you decide. Should you continue to invest further money and complete what you already started, or quit, and have nothing to show for the time and effort you have already put in. Think of it as a fall back, for down the road.

Depends on the degree. Or you can just go on to what you are pursuing but its always nice to have a back up.

Just having a degree shows you can finish something.

Don't undersetimate the power of that.

The carreer you chose may turn bad and the degree may open a door when it's needed.

Get a double degree.

I got a 2nd and 3rd degree just for the fun of it because my company pays for college education.

Yep, just get the diploma and pursue your goals.

After the first hire, nobody cares about your diploma, only about what you've done and what they believe you can do next.

i got a completly worthless degree but i am glad i have it -- you can always use usless degrees as leverage. i have a degree in geography but like to throw out the cultural studies aspects every chance i get. learn to pimp your worthless degrees.
