Bradley P - that is one super answer!
I put comics down for a while and started reading again. Suddenly I was hit with this post/pre/continuity stuff. Since I prefer to read in whatever order suits my mood - I dismissed the research as it would have gotten in the way anyway. Thanks for the summary.

I actually thought the new Superman was ok. Bullet in the eye was cool. Lifting small Island composed of Kryptonite - not bad.. Him getting beat up on the kryptonite island was similar to when the old superman gets beat up in the diner (in front of the old Lois).
I just really disliked the plot. He comes back, DC's love story of the ages is shot to hell because Lois is with another guy (classy...) - plus he has a kid whose life he may never be a part of (very nice). Now you add Luthor as the villian again (I'm tired of this guy already), throw in tired old kryptonite because they couldn't come up with anything else (not a little, a whole continent this time). Sigh...
I say both these supermen should get together and smash the people responsible for putting this film together. After they are done, then they could fight eachother:-)
The Old Superman wins..

In comics, the 1950's/60's/70's Superman was the toughest, before they de-powered him in Crisis on Infinite Earths. (He was ridiculous...! He could throw planets around and blow out super novas with his super breath!) His powers had increased a LOT since he was first introduced in 1938.
Movie wise, I have to go with the first Chris Reeve film, where he rotates the Earth backward and reverses the flow of time. That's something that even the comic book Superman couldn't do. In that the recent movie was toned down and made more sensitive, the first one would win.
(I suspect that in the film where Superman gave up his powers to be with Lois and got them back to fight the Phantom Zone villains, he didn't get ALL his power back. He had to defeat them with his wits.)
If you check out the site Superman Through the Ages, you will see how his powers increased over time., Originally, he was ONLY able to "leap an eighth of a mile, run (!) faster than a streamline train, and nothing LESS THAN a bursting shell could penetrate his skin."
But look at the site, they have dozens and dozens of the greatest Superman stories starting all the way back in 1938 and continuing up to the 2000's.

Ok, hold on, it gets complicated. Sorry.
In *movie* terms, yes, the Christopher Reeve Superman was the stronger of the two....sorry, Brandon Routh just doesn't hack it.
In *comic book* terms....the official version is that the current version is the strongest, and that the "golden age" (note the lower case) version from what *was* Earth-2 (which was finally admitted to exist) wasn't even able to *fly*, as of DC's latest mess, their "Infinite Crisis" series/event/hoohah.
The *Unofficial* or "Imaginary" or *in print* comics tell a different story....in rough order, from weakest to strongest, here are your various versions of Superman.
--First Appearance Golden Age Superman (the leaper, not the flying version from later in the 1940s),
--Black and Silver uniformed Superman (right after he came back from the dead, in the "Death of Superman" arc, the comics themselves mention his not having been "this weak since I was 13"),
--Mainstream Golden Age Superman (the old man from Earth-2),
--John Byrne Revamp Superman (1980s, his "invulnerability" didn't fully protect him from electricity or radiation, strength and speed were limited, time limit on how long he could go without breathing),
--Current continuity, post-resurrection, post-Infinite-Crisis Superman (what you can read on the stands now),
--_Kingdom Come_ era or styled "future" versions of Superman, who generally have the same power level, but are also on the verge of being *immune to Kryptonite*,
--Silver Age, pre-_Crisis on Infinite Earths_ Superman, who, while he was vulnerable to more kinds of Kryptonite (at least three of the five that were around, green, red and gold), also was resistant to magic and had borderline *godlike* abilities, including but not limited to: faster than light speed, super-hypnotism, the super-stretchy indestructible uniform, the whole nine yards.
For the sake of simplicity, no versions of Superboy or Supergirl were included because they are different characters and also because their power levels and very natures varied *even more* than what passes for continuity above. Also, no parallel Earth or Elseworlds versions were included that didn't get at least a *passing* mention in either DC's _Infinite Crisis_ or in the build-up to it. The pre-_Crisis on Infinite Earths_ Superman was mentioned mainly as a way to describe the power level of Superboy Prime in Infinite Crisis....who also posessed the near godlike power levels.
Hope this helps, and that I haven't hopelessly confused everyone here.

at the start goku is already so quickly on his personal that Superman's eyes might want to not in any respect save up with him in a million years and he can ignore a ever getting everywhere close to him because goku might want to bypass so quickly that he might want to get in the back of him and knock him out chilly with a one 2 punch blend earlier Superman even knew what hit him. yet then Vegeta might want to look and blast Superman's subconscious body to smithereens and at the same time as goku asks why Vegeta might want to reply through putting forward that Kakarot change into too tender.

Old superman for some reason he was stronger. I know it doesn't make sense but in JLA he gets shot and he cries like a baby but when he was first out he got shot at by a missle and deflected it off his chest.

DUDE! It's a movie fuckryan out loud!!!! And let me guess......when you saw it you were alone...huh? am I right? 'Cause anyone that gets that worked up over Superman ain't gettin' worked up over the ladies.....if ya' know what I mean! It might be time to lay the old comics down 'cause it seems like that line between fantisy and reality is stretchin' mighty thin on ya'.
