Unfortunately your Grandfather is really the only person who can answer this for you, but if I had to venture a guess, my answer would be that your Grandfather may not be racist towards Bill Cosby and all of the other actors on The Cosby Show. Your Grandfather may feel animosity towards certain people based on what they have done personally to him.

Probably because The Cosby Show was the first show featuring an all-Black cast that was "acceptable" to everyone. There was no "ghettoism", they were an intelligent, educated family who just happened to be Black. When the show was airing, I lived in Nebraska, and had co-workers (mostly from Iowa) who had never met any Black people (there aren't a lot of us there), so took their perceptions of Black people from what they saw on television. The Cosby Show gave a lot of White people, racist and non-racist, the clue that not all Blacks are gun-wielding thugs, rappers, etc. It's Only My Opinion.

That is strange. I often think the same thing when people are racist towards dark women, but then think that Oprah Winfrey is the wonderful. Or people who would not have a relationship with a dark man but then swoon over Will Smith and Cuba Gooding Jnr.
People really are strange.
