For solubility. Many drugs have carboxylic acid functionalities which are more soluble in water (i.e. blood, etc.) as their sodium salts

sodium salt or naproxen sodium? naproxen is the generic name- not a trade name- Naprosyn and Aleve are examples of trade names. it has sodium in the name b/c it contains sodium

"naproxen" is a protected trademark. Generics can't use that name.
