You are correct. Don't forget that both Melissa & Sara also have a brother Jonathan (who played Willie Oleson on "Little House On The Praire" along with Melissa). Jonathan was also adopted, just like Melissa was.

Even though both Melissa & Jonathan are adopted, they are considered brother & sister to each other and to Sara.

Melissa Gilbert's legally adopted mother is divorce from the man who she legally adopter her with. Melissa Gilbert's mother remarried and had Sara and when Sara decided she wanted to be an actress she changed her last name to match Melissa's so they are sisters, just not from the same two parents.

Sara's mother was married to Paul Gilbert who adopted Melissa and Jonathan. Sara and Melissa were half sisters. So what that she changed her last name; they're all good actors.
