if your whole stomach gets tight, it is likely a braxton hicks contraction. If the tightness is just in one area, it is just the baby pushing or laying a certain way. The more children you have, usually the more braxton hicks contractions you can have, and some can be a slight bit uncomfortable. With my third I started having them all the time at 22 weeks. Just be sure you don't go into early labor and postpone going to the hospital, thinking they are just braxton hicks. Your Dr. Im sure has given you warning signs to watch for. With my youngest I had to take it very easy, rest and drink lots of water as I would have A LOT sometimes, and beings my first was 5 weeks early, my Dr. wanted me to be careful. Anyway, all those braxton hicks and he was only 10 days before his due date, 8lbs 15 oz and I almost didn't make it to the hospital! Good luck to you! Sorry for yaking! :-)

It could be both, because usually when you have contractions right after the baby starts to move. I got to the point where I couldnt tell whether I was having a contraction or my son was kicking me, but most likely if your stomach is tightening then it is a contraction, and he is just moving right after or even during.

It sounds like you are having Braxton Hicks contractions which are pretty common during pregnancy(more common in the last few months) They are perfectly normal and a little uncomfortable at times.

More in likely it's just Braxton Hicks.. but if your concerned then speak w/ your doc or midwife. I know that BH usually feel like your stomach is super tight.... and yes it is a contraction. But only a practice one... so it shouldn't be a cause for concern. Sometimes they can be painful... everyone is different.

You are having Braxton-Hicks contractions. They are contractions that prepare your abdominal muscles for delivery. They are nothing to worry about. But, the next time you visit your doctor, ask him about them and he can explain them in more detail. Guaranteed, all pregnant women have them and sometimes they do get a bit uncomfortable.

Could possibly be braxton-hicks... the tightening of the stomach without overwhelming pain and without any consistency,
I'm 20wks and have recently started experiencing this - i'm told as long as it is not too painful or consistent then things are fine - its just the body "practising" for delivery!
Best of luck :)
