you don't need to prove to the police they did it. Cops are very good at questioning and manipulating people. Call the police, tell them who you think did it, and why you think they did it, and the cops will question those people about it. They will most likely be able to tell if they are lying or not and if the cops think they are lying they will most likely talk them into returing the the item or paying for it or face prosecution. Police are great manipulators, it's their job. Give 'em a call.

Hire someone at school to get close to the guy and get himself invited over to play Halo (or whatever.. I don't have an XBOX) and when he's in the kitchen microwaving some corndogs, ask him to take a photo of the back so you can compare serial numbers.

Dude I would tell the police that you know(think) thye did it.
Who else knew you was gone? If you have the reciept go back to the store to recover the serial number.
Then you can prove it.

That really sucks. They didn't have a 360, and now all of a sudden they do. Did you happen to register it? Model# and all that? Got your receipt? Does your pal have a receipt? Sorry again, I hope it works out for you. My son had his IPOD stolen at school. I feel for ya!

do you have the box and warranty card to your xbox? if so, you can use the serial number to prove that the set belongs to you.

Just tell the cops what you know. If you know who did it, they can more than likely prove it.
