The Lousiana Purchased was bought by Thomas Jefferson from Napoleon. Napoleon was knee-deep in a war in Europe and needed funds. He sold the French territory for a meer 2 million dollars. It doubled the US in sized and was a tribute to the 'Manifest Destiny" of the US, spreading its land from the Pacific to the Atlantic, or in other words, stealing the land from the Indians. Anyway, this led to the westward expansion of the US, prompted the western railroad, and last but not least, the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Lewis and Clark were asked by Jefferson to explore this new land and find the Atlantic ocean.
