I think it's possible. Our thoughts are energy thus I believe it happens with the power of thought/the mind. Though I have not tried it I am sure meditation is the way to accomplish levitation. It's all about learning how to use your mind...

Levitation (from Latin levis, light) is the process by which an object is suspended against gravity, in a stable position, by a force without physical contact.
It is also a popular conjuring trick, such as apparently raising a human being without any physical aid. The illusion can be produced by clever mechanics, lighting arrangements or other means
Physics
On earth all that is required for levitation is a force vertically upwards equal to the object's weight. This can be achieved through many different means, for example magnetic, electrostatic (i.e. electrically charged objects) or aerodynamic forces. Aerodynamic levitation is commonly seen in air hockey where jets of gas from the table push upwards against the puck. Levitating objects may also force air downwards e.g. Helicopters, VTOL aircraft, and hovercraft.
A sphere can be stably levitated in a stream of air without any type of control system, if conditions are right. These effects are due to Bernoulli's principle. This was merchandised as a toy, circa 1960.

"Levitation" is a fact, but not one you're likely to ever see. Holy men of all ages have done it, but only in the presense of other trancendant persons. In the presense of disbelief the force cannot be manifested. Your friend can no more raise himself off the ground than could any of the old rock stars who used to make such claims. If he could he could instantly become one of the richest men on earth.

Levitation cannot be done physically. Levitation may be accomplished mentally by partaking of certain controlled substances.

No, it is not possible to levitate for real, but it is an awesome illusion if performed properly. I bet your friend learned how to do it from the same web site I did...
