The rote method of carryover is purely mechanical and kids learn to do it without realizing what it means to "carry over". It is always good to give the kids a physical concept of carrying over while teaching them the rote method.

twelve marbles need to be separated into stacks of tens. Obviously you get one full stack and two marbles left over. Then you add the nine marbles to the two marbles. Now from the resulting pile, you isolate a ten out again. now you have two stacks of ten and one marble left over. That's ten, ten and one. Twentyone. The idea is to filter out the stack of tens from the result of the addition in the 'units place' and take over the stacks as one for one stack of ten units, two for two stack of 20 units and so on.

a million. the student did not specify the completed huge style interior the gang! a collection should be made from any type of persons from 2 to 2 hundred million or a limiteless huge style. For something else, you want to paintings out the opportunities for all the ethnic/ interior sight communities from the records given. So upload each of the figures jointly, = four hundred. that is the no. of folk interior the records crew. So divide each crew through 4 and also you eventually end up with percentage proportions. interior sight Canadians = 20 % different = 11.5%. British Isles = 40%. French = 27%. different ecu = a million.5%. something else is straightforward. operating example: q2. There are 100 and fifty human beings interior the gang. 20 % will be natives, 27% will be French foundation. So interior the 100 and fifty, 30 will be natives (100 and fifty/100) x 20). French should be (100 and fifty/100) x 27 = 40.5. (undergo in concepts, those are theoretical figures, there aren't any 1/2- human beings). In q.3, if 15 are different ecu and Europeans make up a million.5%, then (15/a million.5) x 100 = one thousand. So one thousand - 15 = 985. ok??

1 ......Carry the "1" from the "12" to the top of the tens column.
12
+9
------
21

Add the right column, the "ones column" first.
2+9 = 11

Write down the 1 and carry the 1 to the top of the left column, the "tens column", next.

Now, add the left column, the "tens column".
1 + 1 = 2

This 2 represents the number 2 in the tens column.

Put the two numbers together and the answer is 21
Hope this helped! :o)

That's correct addition in any country :)

(assuming the 1 is being carried. It's hard to convey it over a computer, but it kinda looks like you're trying to add 1, 12, and 9)

Instead of adding the carry over at tehhe top of the sum, I used to put it underneath the sum to avoid confusing it with the original numbers (e.g. if you had to redo as a result of a mistake).

The authorities are forever changing how to teach sums (layouts of calculations rather than final answers).so I don't know which method is being used.
