Windows XP has an option to restart the computer automatically on system failure, that could be caused by new hardware.

You can change this setting by going to the properties off of my computer, advanced, start up and recovery settings. Uncheck automatic restart.

There are a lot of things that COULD cause this but I'm going to guess a bad Power Supply. They are one of the most important yet most overlooked part of a system.

if you are sure that it is not a virus... (which i do not rule out)

it might be one of the following...

Over Heating- make sure nothing is ubstructing the cooling fans and the vents...

Bad disk sectors- Run a defrag on you main harddrive,
(start>programs> accessories> system tools> defragment

Dieing PSU- your power supply unit might be going bad, and dropping its power momentarly

A virus- might be as simple as a program that sets a system task to launch shutdown /r /f (forced restart)

Hope this helps... my guess is probobly over heating...

good luck

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

hahaha! The only thing that made your computer restart is the ground. Open and check your computer (if you know) check if there are grounded areas inside your CPU. There might be cables that hits the capacitors or what so ever. Double check it! thanks!
