Depends on how modern you like. Hard to beat timeless writers & artists like Neil Young, or Crosby, Stills Nash & Young for that matter. Or, the several classic Beatles songs like Dear Prudence, Julia, Mother Nature's Son, etc. How 'bout Paul Simon. He has a ton of classic accoustic songs, like The Boxer, America, etc. There's James Taylor with a fabulous library of accoustic classics. One of the great accoustic songs is Diamonds & Rust by Joan Baez. Or, any of the great Jimmy Webb songs - Highwayman (sung by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson & Johnny Cash), Still Within The Sound of My Voice (sung by Glen Campbell), etc. There's Poncho & Lefty (written and sung by Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard), and so many more. Try some of this stuff. You'll be hooked...unless you think Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears are important artists, in which case, I can't help you. Nobody can.

Lets see. Goo Goo Dolls has an acoustic version of Iris thats really good. They also have a (mostly) acoustic song called "Acoustic #3". There are also acoustic versions of a good bit of Matchbox 20 stuff about as well.

-Memories of Alhabrama by Taregga (Classical),
-Highwayman by Nelson,
-The original version of 1952 Vincent black lightning by Mary Lou Lord,
-Johnny Clegg (S. Africa) is a great guitarist, also from SA: Piet Botha, Mel Botes, David Kramer, DNA Strings, Brixton Moord en Roof, Valiant Swart etc.
Innuendo by Queen (there is a part in the solo that sounds like accoustic spanish guitar),
-Intro of Mama I'm coming home by Ozzy Osbourne,
-Me and Bobby Mcgee by Kris Kristofferson, James Butler Trio has a nice song (Don't know it's name, but its very short, instrumental), Space oddity by David Bowie,
-Shadow of the moon by Blackmore's Night (Ritchie Blackmore is my fav. guitarist)
-Patience by Guns 'n Roses
-April by Deep Purple (again Blackmore)
-Intro of Anya by ... Deep Purple
-Johnny Cash
-Neil Young
-Bob Dylan
Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Don't be afraid to explore unknown territory, there is great music (accoustic and electric), I have not even touched the ears of a hippo!

Try Travis picking "Superman" by Five For Fighting. Sounds real sweet, and it's very easy.
