Usually, people who are depressed have a low mood for a prolonged period. They may have sleep problems (ie too much or too little), changes in appetite, changes in sex drive, feel low self-esteem, feel inappropriately guilty, feel quite irritable, lose interest in favourite activities, feel sad and may even have thoughts of hurting themselves or suicide. People may not experience all of these, but these are some of the main ones.
The good news is that there is a lot of help and hope for people with depression. Just talking over your feelings with people you care about and writing in a journal may alleviate some feelings. It is worthwhile visiting the doctor when feeling low, as some medical conditions can cause depression. Many people who are depressed can be helped with medications, but this is a personal choice. Exercise can help those who are depressed, believe it or not. There are many self-help books. I really liked one called Feeling Good by David Burns.
People can also go to counseling. If money is an issue, your doctor may be able to refer to a psychiatrist covered by a health plan, or your faith community may have counselors that are subsidized. There are also non-profit counseling agencies in most communities. If you are feeling very low, don't hesitate to call a suicide prevention line or a distress center in your area. There is help out there! Best of luck to you.

I knew I was depressed when nothing mattered anymore. I cried a lot, I slept all the time, I didn't care about anything, there was no joy in life. I got into counseling to work through my issues and also see a psychiatrist. I am on meds that have made a huge difference in how I feel in conjunction with counseling.

Your face literally feels heavy, as do your neck and shoulders. You feel a sense of hopelessness about everything.
Many things you can do - depends on just how depressed you are...
1) go out in the sun and let it sit on your face for at least 30 minutes.
2) eat plenty of fruit.
3) exercise, dance! go for a jog, (not a walk), paint/draw
4) go see a doctor and get a prescription!
God Bless you!
thanx for the 2pts
