now days everyone has a ssn and if you don't you are not here to work are you here on a study program? All employers will need your ssn before you start a job as they must take out taxes and report your income. That is if you have a legal job. You may need to apply for a work visa if you are a visitor on a visa

Not in the USA, you can't. Employers are required to get an SSN for each and every employee. Further, there is an IRS form which they have to send in to verify it is a correct SSN.
About the only way to legitimately generate income in the US without a SSN is to form a corporation and use that corporation's EIN.
