pro: it is a renewable resource so we wont run our.

con: the damming of a river reduces flow down stream (less water for other areas to use and ecosystems are messed up)

Hydroelectric energy is electricity generated by spinning huge turbines with moving water. Run water down hill, make it spin a turbine at high speed - voila - electricity. On the good side, it produces zero greenhouse or carbon pollution, unlike coal or oil-fired electrical generation. On the down side, dams (the primary source of water for hydroelectric generation is water held back by a dam and then released to flow past the turbines) are a nightmare for rivers and streams and the wildlife that depends on them. One example: salmon, a fish species that has to return many miles up stream in rivers to breed often cannot negotiate the dams and die without breeding.

It is a conversion of mechanical energy to electrical in which the turbines for the generators are moved by the force of water.

The pro is that it does not involve any combustion and so has no fuel spill or emission worries.

The con is that if the water flow diminishes during the summer there can be less electric generated

Hydroelectric energy is power received by running water (usually a dammed river or something) so that it pushes turbines.

Pro- More environmentally friendly than fossil fuels

Con-Dams make for such boring field trips

It is electric energy that comes from water flow. One pro is that nature makes the water flow, hence, it's free. One con is that is often costs more money to convert the energy to electric than the energy is worth.

Pro -- it is renewable and releases no emissions (heavy metals, greenhouse gases, etc.)
Con -- Building the dam often causes flooding and prevents fish from migrating
