This test is similar to the HSG test but they inject saline into your uterus. The HSG is where they check to see if your tubes are blocked. I need to have this test because I have been trying to get pregnant for five years but I am very apprehensive about the test. It seems like it would hurt, the clamp on the cervyx, the catheter inserting the solution, the camera? Has anyone had it and how much more is there to it than a pap test? Is it equally uncomfortable or worse? Please explain.

I just had an HSG 2 weeks ago, and I have to admit that it hurt so much during the procedure that I thought I was going to throw up. There's no camera involved though, it's an x-ray procedure. Also the pain did subside quickly although I have been spotting ever since. You can take advil before going to help with the discomfort. When I got there I was offered a painkiller but told I could only take it if I wasn't driving. HUH? How the hell did they think I got there? They should let you know all this stuff beforehand. Take a pad, or you'll end up with one of those awful hospital maxis for just in case any dye leaks. Your doctor should have given you antibiotics to take the day before, the day of and the day after your HSG, good luck!
