Christmas comes so fast some years it is not always possible to plan ahead and I know that I too was caught short for christmas one year so I know how you must be feeling.
Christmas is a time of fun and adventure for children, if your sons are very little say under 7 then they will not need expensive gifts, I know from experience that small children often enjoy the simplest things that are inexpensive. A large plastic truck will keep a three to five year old happy for hours...
You could make some presents for them such as play dough recipes are abundant on the internet...
You could make christmas day special by planning ahead and making sure the boys are very busy during the day...
My mother always managed to make us feel like we were getting lots of presents even though looking back a lot of our presents were stuff we had to have anyway.... like sheets, towels, etc in a special colour.... school stuff (it was always confiscatted the day after christmas so we didnt weck it) and our santa sack always had our favourite fresh fruits in it too like a mango, some cherries, and a couple of peaches...
So dont limit what you think your boys should have to only fun stuff... honestly either I am slow or it is common for kids to not figure out their mothers tricks till they are old enough to understand that the money just wasnt there...
Get the boys together and make special decorations together to decorate your house. colour some macaroni in red and green food colouring and let them string it up....
If the boys are older then show them how to make paper chains... honestly my kids and I did this every year leading up to christmas for many years...and it was a great time to get toether and catch up the news of each ones life and talk about happy things.. of course a bowl of lollies on the table while we were making paper chains helped keep them interested too...
Also try Anglicare, St Vincent De Pauls, and ask at your local council chambers too.... they often know of what is going on in there area and where you can get help..
I know asking is hard but really so many other people have experienced a tough christmas that we can relate to it and understand.

God Bless you and your children. I of course will keep you in my prayers. I too have recently been through some tough situations and I can empathize the situation that you are in. Being as that I am only a teenager and having to hold things up and keep a smile on my face for my little brother and my mom. My mom can empathize with you more, too. What I would try to do, (this was done for my family one and a half years ago so we could get food, but it can also work for Christmas gifts, clothing etc.) is to talk to your children's schools. They can set up annomyous fund raisers. They can do it in a way that not even your kids will know that they are benefiting from it. I would also talk to ALL local churches. Try also going to other towns and food banks outside of your community they could probably help you too.
I will pray for you and your kids to have a Merry Christmas and for things to improve.God Bless You

Why didnt you plan ahead?
Theres still a few weeks to go , why not take in some ironing or do some cleaning jobs to get some cash to buy your kids a present? There is work out there if you are willing.
I am a single mum of 2, I pay EVERYTHING off all year so that my kids dont miss out. I pay into a hamper fund for the festive food etc.
I put toys and clothes on layby/layaway throughout the year. It just takes a bit of thought and planning on your part.
I have written this answer on almost every question that has asked for help...........I really dont understand why people dont plan for this.

(Feel free to answer with suggestions, eh?)
But, I imagine you're nowhere near Ottawa.
Am pleased to see somebody already mentioned FreeCycle. That was the first thing that occurred to me.
Go, read through stuff that's already been offered, taken, etc, to get a feel for it. The usual answer to my "offers" runs something like this:
"Dear kmennie,
I saw your offer for a purple piano. If it's still available, I'd love it! My little girl is asking for lessons, and I can't afford to buy her one to practice on at home. Nice of you to offer it!
If you've still got it, I am not too far from you, and would be able to make arrangements to pick it up at your convenience.
Best,
Their Name"
Loads of newbies just mail with "yeah, gimme." A better FAQ is clearly needed... I suggest subscribing in your e-mail rather than reading it on the web site at your leisure; good stuff goes awfully quickly.
If you post a "wanted," don't just say "toys, okay?" Mention that your local charities have turned you down because they're out of funds. My, that's depressing, and I'm sorry to hear it.
If you know any social workers, they've got good odds of having up-to-date information on all the local charities -- ditto churches.
That's the best I can do for an answer; let's see how the prayer works.

Where are you? Phone your local Council and ask for a list of all Charitable organisations and churches in your area. Smith Family and St Vincent De Paul and Salvation Army all do an amazing job this time of year. God Bless you

of course i'll pray for u & ur kids to have a very Merry Christmas. idk of any places but the church i go to has this thing where the ppl that have something to offer take these cards home with them., So on these cards are names & age of children & it says what the child wish or need is for christmas. The person that takes the card goes shoppin for whatever says on the card & brings it back to church & place it in the front of the church in a gift box. Then i guess when church is over the gifts are collected in one place & the family can pick them up. If there's a Catholic church near by maybe u can ask'em if they do this. Good luck+

I will agree with everyone else, try your local chruches, most will have at minimum a guidence for your to follow. I know in our area that the local law enforcement and fire and emt personal take children to walmart and let them spend money every year. You could see if your area is one of them. Also you could try local community colleges or university sometimes the athletics departments adopt kids and or families for the holidays and provide gifts and food for charity work. Also you may try the local high school or FFA they adopt families sometimes to in order to teach children about giving. I will pray for you and I will also have my company pray for you. God bless.

We will be praying! Have you tried calling any churches to see if there are any programs underway? If you do call, I probably would not ask for handouts outright - just ask if they know of any organization by their church or any other church that could help your sons out. Mention that you've tried Sal. Army..... etc. - they might know of some other small organization. This is a general response, since location is not specified.

Toys for Tots must have a way to sign up for toys for your sons, or why don't you try FreeCycle? It's a YahooGroup and there are lots of things that people are giving away free that just need picked up (or they need to know where they can drop it off) I've seen things like Hotwheels car sets, lego sets, etc.) The Boys and Girls Club or the YMCA/YWCA might be able to help...

If you belong to a church do not be afraid to go to your pastor. If you don't belong to one then you might think about it. It would do you and your kids a world of good. If you have a local community center sometimes they can help. Another good resource is your Chamber of Commerce, they have that kind of information.
