Mark McGwire is not getting in, at least not right now.
Pete Rose is banned from baseball for life. That includes the HOF. Rose should never be allowed in the HOF, not even as a paying customer.

Mark McGwire shouldn't get in. He used performance enhancing drugs to aid his accomplishments and that should keep him out. Pete Rose not only gambled on Baseball but he's a miserable excuse for a human being. Just ask Mick 7 he's had some experience with him.

Someone asked this question a couple of days ago. It really comes down to the integrity of the game. The baseball writers must put their personally feelings aside and protect the game of baseball by never allowing McGwire, Rose, Bonds, Sosa and all the other cheaters from ever being elected to the HOF. Personally I doubt that any of the present members of the Hall would even attend any such induction ceremony if any of these guys got in. I think it would destroy the game.

One of the official criteria for entry into the HOF is the players character and integrity. However, if you look at current HOF members, that's never been much of an issue in the past. Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby and a multitude of others would never have made it if their character was scrutinized. On the field accomplishments should be what counts. It's never been proven that McGwire juiced, so you can't factor that in (or, on the other hand, it's starting to look like more pitchers than hitters have used steroids, so maybe it balances out). If you are going to factor in allegations (without proof) of steroid use to keep McGwire out of the HOF, then Ty Cobb DEFINITELY should not be allowed. He apparently shot a man in cold blood, but was never convicted. If murder allegations can't keep a man out of the Hall when it comes to judging character, what can? The focus should be on the numbers and what the player contributed to baseball and McGwire and Sosa certainly made 1998 the most entertaining year of baseball in decades.

As usual, Georgie Porgie is completely right. McGwire took the Fifth before Congress at the steroid hearings in March 2005. People who take the Fifth may not have that held against themselves in a criminal proceeding, but the decision to vote in a retired player is not subject to the same rules of evidence. The Baseball writers are not touching McGwire any time soon.

If and I say "if" McGwire gets in the total integrity of the game will be shot to hell. Cheating is cheating is cheating is cheating!!! These guys should NEVER be allowed into the hall of fame. People just don't seem to get it!! Forget Rose. He's a first class scum bag and bet on games. It is even possible that he "threw" games as well. Who's to say it never happened?? And if either one ever get in, can you imagine what the Cooperstown ceremony would be like? Most of the HOF members probably wouldn't show up and who is McGwire going to thank, Squibb Laboratories for his chemically enhanced home runs? Give me a break!!!!

Mark McGwuire will not likely get in right now due to the congressional hearing and the drug/steriod controversy right now. When it dies down, maybe, although Mark alledgedly only took supplements when it wasn't banned.
As for Pete Rose, this is an entirely different situation. He gambled on baseball. He has no integrety and he disrespected the game. I liked Pete's playing ability and style, but somethings you just don't do. Drugs/steriods may tarnish the player, but Gambling tarnishes the game. It is impossible to enjoy fair competition when the outcome of the game may be decided by interest other than fair competition.

McGwire wont make it for a couple of years.Pete Rose wont get in until hes DEAD hes got a lifetime ban,the powers in Baseball wont give him any satisfaction by electing him while hes still alive thats a shame too because if anybody deserves it he does with everything he did on a baseball field.

there is no reason that betting on baseball deserves a life sentence when steriods currently get a 50 day suspension.
that being said, i think rose shouldbe in it regardless of if mcgwire gets it or not. rose is, in my opinion, one of the top 5 ball players ever. however, as long as rose is still breathing, i doubt rose will see his name up with the greats
