solve the equation for x?

x/12 = 3/9
x = (12*3) / 9
x = 4

it's a proportion. you use cross product. u multiply 9 times x and that equals 9x then u put 9x over 9. Now u multiply 12 times 3 and the product would be 36. u put 36 over 9. 9x over 9.. u cancel the 9's out. now u divide 36 by 9 and the quotient is 4. Therefore the answer is x = 4 :) [ 9x/9=36/9~x=36/9~ X=4 ]

hey..

check this out

x 3
-- = --
12 9
this can be done in 2 ways.

1. cross multiplication
9x = 36
x = 36/9
x=4

2. multiples
the question is saying that these two fractions equal each other...meaning, they are the same....so reduce the one that is complete (3/9), and then make multiples...

3/9 = 1/3

multiples of 1/3

1/3, 2/6, 3/9, 4/12

x = 4

x/12 = 3/9

you've got to find out what x is?

the easiest way is to cross multiply.
you take the top of the left side and multiply bottom of right side.
and likewise for the bottom of the left side and top of right side

to get:

9x = 36

now, you want to get the x all by itself.

so you need to divide both sides by 9.
this gets rid of the 9 on the left side and 36/9 = 4

so x= 4

plug 4 into the problem instead of x and check your answer.
yup, checks out.
great!
keep practicing!!!

x/12 = 3/9

so x/12 =1/3

so

x = 12/3

x = 4

Its a proportion, dont worry these are easy.
k 1st cross multiply so it looks like 9x=36
2nd divide
see that wasnt so bad. Hope that helped.
