You have the air conditioning running when the outside air temperature is below 50 degrees and the evaporator is freezing up.

Let's try to get all the answers together here. Including the ones not listed.

You unit will freeze for two reasons:
1. Faulty refrigeration
2. Air flow problems.

The easy stuff to check is the Air flow problems.
Is the filter clean?
Is the fan blowing?
If the evaporator coil clogged with dirt or debris?

The refrigeration system needs to be checked by a professional but consists of.
Regriferation gas levels
Restrictions in the lines
Faulty reversing valves
amongst some others.

It this order. Check your filter, it may need changed. Check the outside coils and clean if clogged, they the easiest to get to. Check the inside coils and clean, they the hardest to get to. Then if it still Freezing, it low on Freon, which means there a slow leak. Usually somewhere where the two lines enter the house or can vibrate against something that cause a very small hole/leak.

Your unit is low on charge (freon), you need more refrigerant. It's the bigger of the two pipes that is freezing up, called the low pressure side or pipe.

You need to clean your air filter, which is in the furnace.
