You should have a smear every 3 years from the age of 25 until 50 when it becomes 5 yearly. If during that time you have an abnormal smear it will become 6 monthly &/or yearly for 5 years after becoming normal or after treatment. The new ages & schedule have just been revised this year. This is a national screening programme to detect PRE cancerous cells. It is not a pre-requisite for going on the pill but if you are sexually active you should have one.Prevention is better than cure & it only takes a couple of minutes

Yes. You have to have a smear every five years from the time you become sexually active. As the smear test is checking for cell abnormalities that may indicate cancer, you should have one especially if you are on the pill!

You dont have to, but your doctor will recommend that you get one done soon after starting. And if you are going on the pill for actual birth control reasons (you are having sex), it is safe to get one done anyways.

USUALLY YOU DO BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT YOU ARE BEING SEXUALLY ACTIVE. ALSO YOU NEED TO HAVE A PREGANCY TEST AND MAYBE STD TEST DEPENDING ON YOUR DOCTOR AND INSURANCE.

SOME INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER THE COST OF THE PILL OR CETIAN ONES. ANYWAY YOU NEED A PRECRIPTION FROM YOUR DOCTOR TO GET ON THE PILL.
