Europeans had God, gunpowder, and the printing press.

Why were these 3 thing important?

1. God. The protestant reformation was underway in Europe and going to the New World was escape persecution at home, or impose your belief system on others.

2. Gunpowder. The rise in military weapons in Europe made it very easy to overcome the inhabitants of the New World.

3. The use of the printing press, plus the rise of the middle class after the plague allowed conquering Europeans to become well known in Europe and gave rise to proto-capitalism in the New World.

It's the printing press which helped Amerigo Vespuci have America named after himself. Vespuci's accounts of his travels in the New World were much better than Columbus' accounts.
