The simple answer is an exercise of Patience. However, there is a larger principle at work where you can only control your own actions and reactions to events. As with a pot of boiling water, no matter how much you sit and watch, it is not going to affect the outcome or speed to which the water boils - the only part of the whole situation you can control is the decision you make to sit and watch the water. Now the simpler explanation is simple, be patient because by you sitting and watching the pot is going to make the entire event seem to take a lot longer.

It means that things seem to take longer to happen when you're anxiously waiting.
A pot takes about five minutes to boil. If I turn on the heat and then go off and do other things, it will seem to boil very quickly. However, if I am impatient and want my tea ASAP and sit there and watch the pot, it will seem to take forever.
So, if you're constantly waiting for something, it will seem to take much longer (like forever) for it to happen than if you had just ignored it without worrying. Furthermore, your worrying won't help it happen any sooner.

Well, it's sort of like watching the clock. If you just sit and stare at the clock waiting for it to get to a certain time, it seems like the time will never come and it makes the time seem to go by much slower.
It's basically the same thing everyone else has been saying.
Just be patient.

Well, LITERALLY, if you put a meal in a crock pot, everytime you remove the lid it can add up to 15 minutes to your cook time. The same goes for pasta cooking in a covered pot (well it doesnt add 15 minutes... usually only takes that 13 to cook noodles).

It means that things never seem to happen while you're watching. Take, for instance, shooting stars. They are rarely seen.

it means if you wait and expect something to happen, and you're impatient about waiting, it won't happen.
