The 2004 Saturn Ion is not listed on GM's list of e85 (Flexfuel) vehicles. So in short no.

2006 EPA estimates for
2006 Chevy Avalanche:
E85 Ethanol:
combined hwy/city: 12.5 mpg
Regular Gasoline:
combined hwy/city: 16 mpg
Where do you get 60% from? Looks closer to 80% to me. Besides, the point of using e85 isn't so much saving money, but a. burning cleaner for a better environment and b. sticking it to OPEC. However, to answer the original question, No, the 2004 ion doesn't seem to be able to run on flex fuel.

The cost of conversion is "stupendously outrageous". If you have the money to waste on this Ethylene 85 percent alcohol fuel alternative then I guess good luck. After all e85 is only 60% as efficient as regular old high cost low test gasoline.

If your car wasn't designed for flex fuel, don't try it without talking to the manufacture (of the car).

If it doesn't say Flex Fuel on it somewhere, don't try it.
It'll cost you!
