y=-9-1/2(x+1)
= -9 - 1/2 x -1/2
= -1/2 x - 9 1/2

comparing with y = mx+c then m = -1/2 = slope

The slope is -1/2 ... you can figure this out by using the formula for slope: y2-y1/x2-x1 ... find the y coordinates at x=0 and x=1.

You get: (0,-9.5) and (1,-10) ... -10--9.5/1-0 is -.5/1, which equals -1/2.
