It was itchy so I rubbed it. I think I might have rubbed it too hard. It's got like a mass of fluid around the iris (on the white part) and it feels as if there's something in it. Will it go away on its own?

Any eye is something that you really Really don't want to mess around with so I would see what the registered nurses say.

Good Luck!

Not to worry,it sounds like you have "pink eye" or Conjunctivitis.
Rubbing has caused swelling of the conjunctivia which was already inflammed from the infection.
For tonight use a cold washrag on your eye but make sure no one else uses that washrag as it will be full of "pink eye" germs.
See an Ophthalmologist tomorrow.
I recommend an Opthalmologist because usually family Dr's or ER Dr's rarely give the right medicine to cure the problem(they usually give a all around generic antibiotic ointment that rarely works) and an Optometrist generally can't write a prescription for the kind of antibiotic that is needed as they can only write certain a certain class of medicine prescriptions.
The cold washrag will help with the swelling, will make the itch lessen and will soothe the eye but will in no way solve your problem, only the Opthalmologist will be your savior.

I would head into the ER and get it checked. You don't want to mess around with your vision. You may have a foreign body on the eye or it may be a corneal abrasion. They can prescribe medication that will help with the pain/itching so you wont rub it anymore. If there is an infection, they can also prescribe the appropriate antibiotics.
Your vision is very important
