It sounds like your oil pump is going out. You might have a good oil level, but if the pump doesn't pump it to your engine, then all that oil is just sitting in the pan.

Consider the oil pump like your heart. People have heartattacks from their heart stopping, not a lack of blood.

Stop driving the car immediately and tow it to the mechanic. It sounds like an older car because newer cars usually have a safety feature which shuts your engine down if your pump is bad.

The engine could be worn out, to much main bearing clearance. It probably has an electric oil pressure guage and sending unit, these could be bad. One way to tell if the engine is ok or not is to put a mechanical oil pressure guage on it. An engine can last a long time with as little as 10 lbs of oil pressure, but if it has no pressure at idle you are in trouble.

What that means is at low revs you lose oil pressure due to wear in your engine, when accelerating you manage to maintain enough pressure!! It could either be your oil pump is starting to pack in, or you have too much clearance on your bearings...Best you sort it out ASAP, or you could end up having to fix an engine with a severe bearing knock!

most likely your rod bearings are getting to much clearance might be time to trade her in, you could try heavier oil also.
