This wasn't a Christmas gift but here it is:
When I was 16 I moved away from home 3000 miles across the country. My mother needed me to come home but could not afford to send me a ticket so I took my last 100 bucks (tickets used to be cheaper) and a box of cheezits and bought a greyhound ticket.
I made it about half way when an older lady who was about my mom's age must have noticed that all i had been eating for 2 days was cheezits. she didn't ask me nor did i ask her but she bought me a sandwich at the next stop, i was so thankful. later that night she exited the bus, and when i woke up later i found twenty dollars in my bag pocket. this lady did not know me or my situation (i didn't talk much on that trip) but helped me out. she sensed that i was having a hard time and out of pure kindness helped me. i remember this even though it was years ago and try to help others when i can. that was the best gift i ever received.

My boyfriend trekked all over Koh Samui to find an English bookstore and buy me a book for my birthday this year. It's the most thoughtful gift he's ever given me, because he actually made an effort to get me something I like, even though he personally does not get it.
He's not much of a reader...
I know it's a small thing, but the gesture is what made the gift special.

an amethyst and diamond, white gold ring that I received from my son for Christmas. It was his first full time job at 18years old and it was his birthstone. I had been looking for an amethyst ring forever, unknown to him, but could never find one that wasn't gaudy....the one he gave me is absolutely gorgeous and delicate.
It wasn't the value, but the thought and love he put into it, and choosing his birthstone was just the most precious gift, as he was to me the day he was born.....sorry if its corny, but I love my son so much, I can honesty say I was blessed the day he was born. He is the best gift I ever received.

Honestly, memories are so much more fun than presents (my favorite memory was a family walk through the snow in the mountains).
One year, however, my mom had bought a poster of my favorite painting and had it framed. I was so surprised when I saw it on Christmas day, and each morning I wake up to the bright colors of the painting.
