One of my friends told me there is an American Indian story about thundersnow. After much searching I still can't find anything except the technical terms for thundersnow. Anyone know the stories associated with this? Huggers.......Kitty

Thundersnow is very real.I live in the Midwest US, we have thundersnow here at least once every winter. Thundersnow is a snowstorm that has enough energy to produce lightning and thunder. You never get to see the lightning because it snows so heavily during these storms. Generally you will get an inch or more of snow an hour with a thundersnow storm. They are no fun, unless you own a snowmobile! :)

No thundersnow is not a myth. I've heard meteorologists talking about it on the Weather Channel. You might want to go to their website and type that in there may be some anecdotal information about the Native American story.

It happens very rarely. Usually when the cold front is really close to the warm front, so you get two different storms combining--a thunderstorm and a snow storm.

All I've heard about it is that it's when it thunders while it's snowing and that it's very rare.
