My friend is normally happy and cheerful but this recent development has really crushed her. How can I try to make her feel better?

Just be there for her when she needs a shoulder to cry on or someone to listen to her.

That's the main thing. It's hard when parents divorce, no matter how old you are.

Tell her not to feel that she has anything to do w/it. It's her parents who are divorcing and she's not the cause of it!

Help her to understand that a divorce does not mean that her parents do not love her any less. At the same time, talk to her and let her not feel that she is all alone. Possibly could try to do things as a group and have people to be her listening ear. At the same time, you could talk to her parents and ask them to try talking to your friend to let her know that her parents still love her very much and explain things to her too.

Learn at an early age......you cannot control how anyone thinks or feels. If she feels bad then that is the way she feels and is entitled to it. Leave her alone and stop butting into her business and trying to control her her thoughts and feelings.
