That breakthrough has been the goal and dream of many scientists and Corporations dreaming of untold riches for as long as the function of chlorophyll has been known. As far as I know it has never been accomplished.

Its' benefits would have to compete with those of plants. "God" (evolution?) made plants extremely efficient and complex. A possible benefit would ensue if the artificial chlorophyll was more efficient.
