About the mourners, no clue. But, Odysseus came to the Underworld in order to meet the seer Tiresias and learn about the outcome of his wanderings. It was the witch circe who gave odysseus this task, and told him how to do it. She also sent the wind who carried Odysseus' ship to the farthest realm of Oceanus, allowing him and his crew to find the Grove of persephone that circe had indicated. Circe instructed Odysseus to go to a rock which is located in the place where the rivers "Pyriphlegethon" or Phlegethon and Cocytus flow into Acheron. There, Odysseus dug a pit around which he poured a libation to the dead, first with honey and milk, then with wine, and finally with water. Then, having sprinkled white barley over the libation, he invocated the spirits of the dead, and after the invocation he cut the throats of a ram and an ewe. Then the souls of the dead came gathering about the pit.

If I am not mistaken Odysseus meets quite a few people but the three that come to mind is Tiresias, who is the blind seer he seeks (after Circe sent him) to find out how to return home. Then he encounters his mother, Anticleia, who died eventually from mourning around over Odysseus. Then he meets a crew member he did not even know had died, Elpenor. Turns out that on Circe's island Elpenor fell off the roof and died but nobody noticed he was gone. Elpenor tells Odysseus that his soul can only be rested if he goes back, finds his body and properly buries it. Odysseus saw some more people but I believe those are the main people.

Odysseus is able to disguise his identity, though not physically, by telling Polyphemus his name is ‘Nobody’ so that he will not be identified as the one who blinded the Cyclops. He also disguises himself as a beggar when he returns to Ithaca to protect himself from being killed by the suitors.
