Look, I know everyone says this is so easy, but I'm so paranoid I'm going to screw my computer up. The video card came with a manual, but I've heard people talking about static electricity and all this other crap....I don't even know what I'm supposed to unplug.

And I'm not buying anything else just to install this crap. So don't say buy an anti-static wrist strap or something. Please help me out a little though, and preferably, walk me through it.

Does that mean I should take my computer over to my dining room table or something? Because the computer resides on table, which is directly over carpet.

The static thing is annoying. In a computer tech workshop they have there workplace setup in a more anti static workshop were they do there tech work. just take off any baggy or staticy clothing and socks and touch bathroom or kitchen sink to ground yourself then you should be ok.

The ram is more harder to install because there any many types of ram. Did you make sure the ram was compatible? If your PC uses a AGP video card then you will either have an empty slot in your PC or an older card. You will want to uninstall or disable the old one first.

Follow the guide its pretty straight forward. If you run into any problems seating either the ram or video card post more questions. You will want to firmly and evenly press each ram stick into place. First one side will lock in then press down on the other side.

The videocard is much easier. Just slowly and firmly press it downwards into place once you have lined it up properly with the AGP slot. You may run into problems with over heating this is a huge problem. You might also need a new PSU (power supply unit) but it should be ok.

I have never messed anything up by installing it wrong or installing something that is not compatibles but I have installed stuff that is not meant to be used in that type of system. Like a videocard that produced way to much heat for the cooling I had in my case.

Good luck if you need addinal info , post more info or start a new topic. You can also message me too if you want. I hope that I and other have answerd your questions.

At home I did lots of upgrades on various computers over the carpet itself. I would just reground myself every 5-10 mins. You can move your PC if you feel more safe but its up to you.

I work on computers on the kitchen table all the time.

First unplug all wires from the computer, it's not worth zapping yourself.

Pop the side off, and lay the computer down with the mobo faceup on the table.

Frequently place your hand on the power supply to dissipate static. Open up memory slots and carefully install RAM. They should fit in tightly, the end clips will close by themselves.

If you have a video card already, you may have to remove it. Unscrew the screw or whatever holds the key in the slot. Check the tail end, AGP cards have a hook to hold the tail down, there is often a catch to slide back. Your new card will install in the empty AGP slot. When in doubt, look at the manual.

Close that puppy up and plug in all the wires. Boot it up and see what you have.

Yeah, i felt the same way when i bought mine. First you have to uninstall your previous graphics card, which probably says in the guide, but you dont have to take it out. No you do not need an antistatic wrist strap, and you do need to unplug your computer and let all the electricity out by waiting 1 or 2 minutes. Then just put in your graphics card in the agp slot carefully, and you probably will have to push down hard, but dont worry just dont push down in an angle. after you finish putting in your graphics card, plug your computer back up and turn it on and install it from your cd if you have one. Enjoy your new graphics card~

Really all you have to worry about is doing it around carpet. Touch a sheet of metal that's not connected to the computer from time to time during the installation to release all the static off your hands. As for the installation help you can look up manuals easily online.
