ok lets see, i just got done building a computer and it was my first time turning it on. It goes through all the steps and then it hangs up on DMI Pool Data. then it just goes to the screen that says it didnt start successfully and restarts the whole process over and over again. is there some boot floppy or disc i have to run for it to start up properly?

If you purchased a new mobo a startup or boot settings cd-rom or floppy disk should have been included to install the bios an mobo system. If not you should contact the place of purchase an ask for the appropriate item.

Go into the motherboards bios, go to boot sequence and set it to look for cdrom for the first boot sequence.

most boards bios's are accessed by hitting the del key when you first turn it on, just hit it repeatedly till it comes up, its normally a blue screen. if that isn't the right button, then it'll be listed in the motherboard book.
set the cdrom/dvd first, then HD after that.
once the operating system is loaded, then you can set that to look for hard drive first, and it will make it start up faster.

Also, replug all of tghe accessories. Check the master/slave pins on the hard drives, and cdroms. Western digital has a strange setup for single drives also, so be sure the pins are set correctly. Make sure the ram is in all the way. it only takes a minute,, and can save you a trememdous amount of time..
hope this helps.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
