First, this question violates Answers' terms of service, which forbids "chatting." I'm getting tired of wading through posts that don't belong here but on newsgroups and specific message boards instead.
Second, you don't know what you're talking about. There is a proposal in Bangor (where I live) to enact a city ordinance that would prohibit smoking in vehicles when children under 18 are present. The rationale is that children don't have a choice whether to be exposed to secondhand smoke, which is known to cause lung cancer, asthma, allergies, and other health problems. The ordinance would make the violation a secondary offense, meaning that the local police would not be able to stop a motorist solely because of smoking in the vehicle with minors present; the police would have to stop the motorist for another reason.
Violating the ordinance would result in a fine, not jail time.
As for your other nonsense, such as "maybe we don't like the programs you watch, we will arrest you for that," there is not a chance in Hades any such thing would ever be enacted because it would clearly violate the First Amendment. So, too, with a dress code.
And for your statement "last I looked, if you are over 21 you can drink and smoke," the last *I* looked, you have no right to make me ingest your smoke or booze. Keep it to yourself. And that's all the proposed smoking ordinance would seek to do.

I use to smoke, on and off for about 35 years, but quit Cold Turkey 17 years ago. I thank God that there were no ill effects from it. I am prone to Bronchitis and that is one of the reasons why I finally quit.
My father died of Emphysema, as a result of smoking. For the last 8 years of his life he was on oxygen 7/24 and couldn't even leave the house or go outside on the porch. If he got sick my mother had to call an ambulance to take him to the Emergency Room.
My father was the most loving and easy going man you would ever want to meet. Everyone who met him loved him. The lack of oxygen to the brain caused him to be irritable, argumentative and he couldn't even think straight. It also caused him to have Parkinson Disease. When I was at home and I could hear him breathing in the next room. Luckily my father died in his sleep; and, I say that because it's not a pretty sight when they are gasping and fighting for their last breathe.
I'm sure you have seen people on the outside carrying their oxygen tanks with them? There is a good chance they were smokers. If I made an impression on anyone that is smoking I'm glad.

I'm not a smoker. Smoking has been banned in public places in Ireland wooohooo.....I don't have to stick the smell of smoke on my clothes after a night out anymore. There are smoking rooms in most pubs and niteclubs where people can go, rather than heading outside to smoke. I think it was such a great idea to bring the ban in. I suppose its different if you are a smoker though

No smoking in public place's I can except that, but anywhere else is invasion of privacy, its going way to far, its none of anyones business, I don't smoke but did decades ago, but there needs to be a limit to this madness, oh yeah, one time a girl friend asked me if I smoked after sex, I thought a second and said,"gee, I never looked, but probably"..have a good day..

I do not smoke. Here in Minneapolis, people are no longer allowed to smoke at bars and any eating establishments...it is such a great thing. I also think that not allowing people to smoke in their own cars is not fair and over the top. If people want to subject their kids to secondhand smoke that is their own stupid choice.

I do not smoke. I think it should be illegal to smoke in public. I work hard to stay healthy and am tired of people blowing smoke in my face on the streets. It is rude.
