A bailiff is a specialized law enforcement officer whose primary purpose is courtroom security, protection of the judge and officers of the court, movement of inmates within the court system and enforcement of courtroom rules and regulations.

Before your classroom trial, watch a few episodes of the TV show "Night Court", 1984-1992. Focus on the character called "Bull."
I believe he was the bailiff.

The bailiff makes the announcement at the beginning, whatever it happens to be, and says "All rise" when the judge comes in. The bailiff also swears in witnesses and is the person who hands things to the judge.

James P is absolutely correct in his answer, the bailif swears witnesses in, controls courtroom procedure, rules and regulations, sees to it that witnesses or the inmate do not get into any sort of confrontation or fight, and that the jugde is protected, hands in documents from the plaintiff to the judge and so on and so forth. Don't be confused, i have been in ur position when i was in high school n took a law course too, but it really gets simple once u know the basics. Good luck to ya!! have fun!!

He is sorta like a cop that helps the judge control things in the court room. He just stands there and follows the judges orders and does what the judge says, like hands the judge papers from the trial participants and stuff.
