7 cards to each player and then once everyone has their cards then flip over the next card and depending on your house rule you cannot play on that card if it is a wild, skip, or draw card. the good thing about UNO is that you can make up your own rules. It is my favorite card game to play, i even got it for xbox live arcade.
Most people use 7 but really it doesn't matter.
