it's just a vaginal/anal swab. It's less bothersome then even a pap smear. If it comes back positive then they start you on IV antibiotics during labor. It's not really a big deal you just have to have the antibiotics once your water breaks, so if you go into labor and your water breaks you have to go to the hospital right away.

It's a swab of the vagina, the same as if they were doin a pap. They send it off to the lab to get tested for the group b strep. You should get it at about 35-37 weeks. Good Luck!

I get my group b strep test tomorrow. They take a big swab (like pap smear) and swab the area between the vagina and the anus. It's no big deal, painless. This is my second baby. I'm on my 37th week.

hi There!
I just had my baby #3 four months ago and I tested positive for Strep B but all that happens is they give you antibiotics when you get ready to deliver and my baby is just fine.
The test is a pap smear..which you will have TONS of those while being pregnant..well..two or there for sure and you'll get used to people being "in there". Good luck you on your pregnancy!

Just a vaginal swab, nothing big. I tested positive for it with my first, if you have it make sure to tell your doc each time you are pregnant, it really isn't a big deal as long as the doc knows, you just have to be put on antibiotics while in labor.
Once you test positive you will always have it, even if you don't test positive for it your next pregnancy.

you are diagnosed usually late in pregnancy around your 35th week by the doctor doing a swab in vagina and then having it tested. if you test positive they will administer antibiotics when you go into labor, it is very effective, if you are positive everything will be alright. Best of luck to you!

It's a swab that's done around 35 weeks gestation
They swab your outer anus and vagina.
If it's positive, they will give your baby antibiotics. Otherwise, it could potentially kill your baby.
It's no big deal if you do have it, as long as they know ahead of time.
