Who is currently the most respected living person in the world?

I think that's a question that could easily vary from region to region. So, I will give my personal opinion. I highly respect Oprah Winfrey. And I will give you several reasons for this:

She did not come from a wealthy family.

She grew up in the South, in a period when black people, much less women did not even have equal rights.

Basically, she started out with all odds stacked against her, yet, she managed to overcome all of them, to where she is now the icon that she is. She now can make or break a person simply by "endorsing" it, or badmouthing it - even in the subtlest of ways.

She is now one of the wealthest, if not the wealthiest women in the world. She is highly respected by people of all walks of life, all around the world. I'm sure she has her share of people who totally dislike her, but who wouldn't in her position.

Although she is very wealthy, and she obviously lives very comfortably with plenty of money to spare to spend on herself - she worked hard for it and she deserves it IMO. She still has her charities, to which people can be confident that when they donate to one of Ophah's charities, 100% of their donations will go directly to that charity. She is very generous, she alone has several times at least donated more personal money than has the US government.

She is a very special, very determined lady and I totally admire her..

hmm well scince this day and age is all about how much money and wealth you have i'd have to say, bill gates, or mabye steve jobs, someone with a high corporate status.
