What exactly is the procedure for a tuneup? Is it simple enough to do it yourself? What supplies do you need and how long will it take?

Pretty much.

Change the Oil, change the filters, change the plugs. Inspect belts, hoses and fluids, replace or refill if needed. If you do not have a "check engine" light condition, that should do.

i own a repair shop, and some of it is simple but you need a few specialty tools to use on it,like a timing light and a few other ones also,,id let someone do it that had the tools,if you mess up it will cost more to get it straitened out than the tune up is worth on it,,i own a 87 sports coupe,,and there not as easy to tune up as everyone says they are, some parts of the tune up you can do like the plugs, cap wires and rotary button,,but there's some of it you cant do also,,good luck,,i hope this help,s.

Pretty easy. All you need is a ratchet, extension, and a plug socket. The plugs are right down inside the valve cover. Just pull the wires loose and pull them out one by one and replace them. Good Luck!!!
