It all starts with King Minos. He did something that offended the gods (I can't rember what) and as punishment, his wife, Pacifae, fell in love with a beautiful bull. In order to seduce the bull, she had her craftsman, Daedalus, craft a bull outfit for her, and she then boinked the bull. The offspring of the beastly (pardon the pun) act was the minotaur, who was then kept in the catacombs, which were also crafted by Daedalus. The minotaur required sacrifices to be made to him, but King Minos' daughter fell in love with one of the 'sacrifices', named Theseus. She convinced Daedalus to tell her the secrets of the catacombs, in order to allow Theseus to escape. The secret was to tie some string to a rock and follow it. He killed the minotaur and escaped. For this deed, Daedalus and his son, Icarus, were confined to a tower prison, and from here stems the tale of the wax wings, and Icarus' death.
