some of you guys are forgetting that "slang" isnt talking stupid. its a way of speaking. not bashing one another. it goes way back into the slave years..not used because of being a slave but just that time period. people who think its "stupid" arnt open to hear the history behind it.
when i talk to people i dont see black. i dotn see the color. i know it may sound weird because there right infont me but i always look past the color and try to see them for who they are not what color they may be.

listen... tell the bi tch what's up... the only reason why you CAN'T talk black is because you're afraid that she's gonna get up in your face about it.... it's all just words... if you want to talk like you're uneducated... then go ahead... there's nothing wrong with it... just back your s hit up... if you're afraid ... then just don't do it...

Everyone uses slang terms. They even say it on the news.. when people say what's up, that's slang.. what is talking black and white? so a black person speaking proper, that's talking white?? Its just that certain groups have slang words associated with them and Some people get mad when they feel other people are trying to be something their not, by attempting to emulate or mock another group. You should just be the way you are and if they say negative things about you, then they aren't your friends anyway, and you shouldn't give a F what they say. If you do use slang then make sure you speak properly in certain situations. And don't generalize because, not everyone in all groups speak the same.

It's just retarded.
I don't think it's a race issue, it's more of an age appropriate issue.
Youths of all ages are growing up around each other, amidst intermingled races and cultures. It's only natural for people of the same age to speak the same "language".
"Groovy man", "Far Out", "Outta Sight"....those are slang terms of yesterday, and I've seen and heard both whites and blacks using them.
If your friend doesn't like the way you speak, she really isn't being very friendly...
It's also very socially acceptable to be made fun of for being white nowadays, a HUGE double standard....
I say speak how you want to speak, and as for anyone getting up in your face about it, ask them why they care so much? You are in a free country and can speak however you please. If they don't like it they don't have to listen to you.
Don't let ******* like that get to you or dictate what you can and cannot do.

There is nothing wrong with trying to be idealistic, we all try to blend in with different cultures/groups at some point of our lives be it with our educational status or slang....More and more people are using it with their friends Blacks, Whites and Hispanics. I see teens do it everyday and they don't get mad at each other.

Another thing to think about ....sometimes kids make fun of others, but it's all in fun. For example "Yo mama jokes" they don't mean any harm. You joke, you laugh, you go home with a story to tell.

If these people are "hurting" you then you need to find new friends. period.

I love the English language and all the different directions its goes into.
A New Yorker, a Texan, a Minnesotan, or a Los Angelino all speak differently when they are speaking proper english. Does a brit make fun of us? or an Aussie? I pull out proper english when I have to. Slang is better because it sets us apart and says "Hey, we dont have sticks up our asses." It's popular culture baby.
You shoud learn proper English or people who are in power positions
Like a boss or client will think differently of you.
Your black friend should be flattered for her race, because their language has found a great spot in American culture for whites, hispanics, and blacks.

to tell you the truth, i'm mostly African-American, but i hate using slang. Some of my friends tried teaching it to me, but i refused. I tried and they said "That I talk like a white girl". So i've been called an Oreo and stuff, but that don't hurt me, ehehehe! Just to let you know, all blakcs don't use slang. Everyone in my family don't use slang at all. We don't care for new school rap. aaaaaaaaaaahhh!

I say talk the way you talk. Don't worry about how black people talk in slang. I think its dumb and stupid.(i never really understand what they are saying, anyway). Also don't worry about what they say. Most of them are caught up in that rap crap and think their culture is only for them. Most of us tend to be ignorant, from what i've seen at school and tv. Many people in my school are RACIST among themsleves and others. omg!

Well first of all you do not know me.I get called a white girl,so obviously I don't use slang. Not all black people use slang.I think it is stupid to use slang. There is no such thing as talking black or talking white. There are the people who want to speak correct English, and some idiots who want to speak slang. You're black girlfriend sounds stupid.Do not generalize people.I really don't care how you dress either. If it doesn't affect me I don't care.

Girl, it's not about talking "black". I am black, but I don't talk any kind of way. I left and went to college and when I spoke to some of my friends back home, they told me I spoke like a white girl. I told their asses, no it's called EDUCATED. I speak slang every now and then, but I am basically just being myself at all times. When I go to work, I don't speak nobody's jargon, I speak like a professional. When I am talking to my friends on the phone or back home, I am Meka. Basically, you need to just be yourself. If your friends don't respect that, whether they be black or white or asain, then you don't need to be friends with them.

Show some class! You will have a much better chance in life if you speak properly. Better grades, better jobs, a better life and more $$$. By the way...your spelling could use some work too. If you haven't learned to spell yet at least use spell check!

They're probably trying to screw with you. Get on your nerves, etc etc. If you had friends like mine, you'd be able to joke about how dumb the ghetto-speak sounds, and how dumb it sounds when you try to translate it into proper-speak ("yes, yes, you all", something like that).
I hate slang though. I don't see it as culture too much at all.
And the way they're using it with you is only making the racial differences more defined in your circle of friends.
