shifts slowly 2nd to 3rd then will not shift down at all in drive (no kickdown, will not shift to 2nd or 1st when completely stopped. if i turn the car off and immediately restart it goes in 1st and shifts normally for a while.i dont think the problem is internal...any ideas?

the shift solenoid may be going out on it this would explain all the different things its doing,and especially when you cut it off then re-start it back ,and it works right,,i own a repair shop,and also it could be the filter in it is really dirty also,,this will cause erratic shifts in it,,but id check and see if the fluid smells burnt in it,,this can offer a lot of answers on a bad transmission,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Ten years previous .. and also you likely did now no longer say what percentage miles on the motorcar.. it truly is likely time for a sparkling transmission.. you're many times fortunate if a small Hyundai is going over one hundred,000 on the unique transmission.

Ten years old .. and you didn't say how many miles on the car.. it is probably time for a new transmission.. You are usually lucky if a small Hyundai goes over 100,000 on the original transmission.

This sounds like a valve body problem. I wouldn't try to fix it. See if you can find a good transmission re builder. I'm sure your transmission has seen enough.

check you transmission filter it could be clogged.
